LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Lansing’s deputy mayor has resigned, effective Friday, July 5.

Shelbi Frayer informed Lansing Mayor Andy Schor of her resignation last week. Lansing Spokesman Scott Bean confirms Frayer’s resignation was effective Friday.

He says Frayer will be starting her own consulting business.

Frayer served as the city’s first Chief Strategy Officer — from 2019 to 2020. She left the city and went to Flint to serve as Chief Financial Officer in that city in 2020, returning to Lansing in 2022 to serve as Deputy Mayor.

“I am really proud of the work we accomplished in the Schor Administration over the last two years. We passed a successful bond initiative to invest $175M into our public safety campus, kicked off the Ovation project, secured a new city hall, and secured a developer for the repurposing of the current city hall building,” said Frayer in a written statement released by the city Monday afternoon. “The Mayor and our city council leadership have been laser focused on growing the city and I am very thankful I had an opportunity to be a part of the team and serve in my role as Deputy Mayor. Lansing is my hometown and I care very much for the residents and employees. Although I am starting a new adventure, I will always support the city and contribute to its future in any way that I can.”

Schor released the following statement Monday afternoon.

Shelbi Frayer has been an incredible member of my team and a close, trusted advisor. She helped accomplish much in her time here and now wants to pursue other opportunities. I am excited for her and her family as she begins this new chapter. As I’ve always said, City of Lansing hires the best talent, and we will take them for as long as we can have them. I look forward to seeing all of the great things that Shelbi will achieve for our city, region, and everyone she works with!  And I know that she will always be available for advice when I need to pick her brain

Frayer will be replaced by Information Technology Director Christopher Mumby. Mumby will continue as IT director for the city, but is now the Chief Administrative Officer for the city and will take over many of Frayer’s responsibilities, Bean confirms.
