LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A historic downtown Lansing clothing store that has been open for 150 years was damaged during Tuesday night’s downpour.

Matt McLeod, General Manager of Kositchek’s Menswear says the store is temporarily closed due to a partial roof collapse. The store’s official Facebook page posted the following on Wednesday:

Leaves and other debris could be seen scattered on the floor inside the store Wednesday afternoon, and contractors spent the afternoon assessing the damage, and staff worked on passing out pick-up orders.

The general manager says the damage was found when he showed up to open the store Wednesday morning.

“It looked like a tornado gone through. I mean, things were knocked off the shelf and there was just [a] lot of debris blown around the store,” said McLeod. “And by the time I got further into the store, I realized the building had collapsed, partially. Rain was still coming in, the water was pouring in.”

A City of Lansing spokesperson says no other downtown businesses reported damage from Tuesday’s storms.
