LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Reports of smoke in a southside Lansing neighborhood late Friday night led crews on a search for the source of the smoke, which turned out to be a house fire.

Lansing Fire Department sent crews to the 3900 block of South Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard at around 11:30 p.m., for reported “smoke in area,” officials said.

When crews got to the area, they couldn’t find the source of the smoke at first. After splitting up and searching side streets, they found the heavy fire and smoke at a one-story house on the 1100 block of Eaton Court.

“Large amounts of debris” at the home initially hindered crews’ efforts, officials said. After aggressive action and the use of a second hose line, firefighters got the fire under control and extinguished it.

No one was home at the time of the fire, LFD officials said. The cause of the fire was likely electrical.
