LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Casa For Kids, a local non-profit that advocates for children in the foster system, hosted a book drive Friday, and the community showed up in a big way.

Casa For Kids and Fifth Third Bank helped organize the event, and they were thrilled to see the community come together in support of the children.

“Reading helps kids not only better self-identify and deal with their own emotions and identity but also better empathize and understand others and so we see storytelling as a huge way to change the future and we know children shape the future,” says Rachel Swedburg, executive director of Casa For Kids.

You can continue to donate books until August at several drop-off locations, including Fifth Third Bank in both Lansing and Mason, Summit Comics and Games, and the Casa For Kids office.

Casa For Kids will use the donated books to create a lending library, not just for the 150 kids they are currently working with, but for the community and other children in need.
