    MHSAA track regionals: Mason, Pewamo-Westphalia, Portland St. Patrick capture titles

    Riley Gill, Tori Lator and Meghan Ford were individual event winners while helping the Mason girls track and field team capture a Division 2 regional title Friday.

    Gill was the 100 hurdles champion, Lator won the 200 and Ford was first in the 1,600 to lead Mason, which scored 128.5 points. The Bulldogs finished 35.5 points ahead of runner-up Battle Creek Harper Creek. DeWitt was third with 83 points.

    The success for Lator and Gill included being part of Mason's winning 800 relay. Gill and Ford ran legs on the 1,600 relay that finished first.

    DeWitt’s individual champions were Mia Williams in the 800 and Autumn Thompson in the 3,200. Thompson and Williams were both part of the winning 3,200 relay for the Panthers.

    DIVISION 3 AT BATH

    Elly Bengel, Whitney Werner and Jenna Spitzley were individual winners for Pewamo-Westphalia as it finished with 137 points while winning a regional title.

    Bengel won the 400, Werner was the champion in the 800 and Spitzley took first in the discus for the Pirates, who finished 49 points ahead of runner-up Olivet.

    Lansing Catholic’s Tessa Roe and Bath’s Destiny McDaniels were double individual winners. Roe won the 1,600 and 3,200 runs and McDaniels finished first in the 100 hurdles and long jump.

    DIVISION 1 AT GRAND LEDGE

    Grand Ledge finished third and East Lansing was fourth to lead the Greater Lansing teams at this regional. Grand Ledge finished with 71 points, which was 0.5 behind runner-up Sturgis. East Lansing had a score of 66.5.

    Individual champions for Grand Ledge were Katherine Blue in the pole vault and Ashley Richburg in the long jump. East Lansing had three individual champions in Amelia Biehl (400), Janell Brown (300 hurdles) and Ariyana James (high jump). Biehl and Brown were also part of East Lansings winning 800 relay.

    Other area individual champions included Holt’s Lauren Walker in the 800 and Okemos’ Shannon Gillahan in the 3,200.

    DIVISION 2 AT CORUNNA

    Ava Schafer won the 3,200 and Ella Schafer was the champion in the discus while helping St. Johns score 83 points and earn a runner-up finish at the regional.

    Owosso was third with 82.25 points and led by Gabrielle Hufnagel, who won the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.  Owosso also had Peyton Spicer win the high jump and Libby Summerland take first in the pole vault.

    DIVISION 4 AT CONCORD

    Portland St. Patrick finished with 142 points while capturing a regional championship. Rylee Scheurer was a double individual winner to lead the Shamrocks, placing first in the 100 and 200.

    Other individual champions for St. Patrick included Kenzie Fedewa in the 400, Siena Schafer in the 800 and Sophia Schrauben in the 100 hurdles.

    Webberville was third at the regional and was led by Ryleigh Nelson, who won the high jump and long jump.

    BOYS

    DIVISION 2 AT MASON

    Tyler Baker won the 110 hurdles and was the runner-up in the high jump while helping lead Mason to a runner-up finish at the Division 2 regional it hosted Friday.

    The Bulldogs finished with 98.5 points, while Parma Western claimed the title with a score of 123.

    Baker was the lone event winner at the regional for Mason. DeWitt placed fourth with 67 points.

    Drew Novak won the 200 and Ian Fowler won the 800 to lead DeWitt.

    DIVISION 2 AT CORUNNA

    Tarick Bower won the 100 and long jump while helping defending state champion Corunna capture a regional championship.

    Bower’s efforts contributed to the Cavaliers finishing with 144 points at the meet.

    Wyatt Bower was the 200 champion and the long jump runner-up for Corunna. Both also contributed to the winning 400 and 800 relays.

    Owosso’s Gavin Mecomber was a double winner and took first in the 100 and 300 hurdles

    DIVISION 3 AT BATH

    Trevor Smith, Collin Farmer and Gavin Nurenberg each won a pair of individual events while helping Pewamo-Westphalia finish as the champion at Thursday’s regional. P-W finished with 97 points, while Olivet was the runner-up with 87 points.

    Smith won the 100 and 200, Collin Farmer was the champion in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs and Nurenberg placed first in the shot put and discus. Nurenberg set a personal record with his throw of 169-3 in the discus.

    DIVISION 1 AT GRAND LEDGE

    Max Bernard won the shot put champion and Jackson Shaltry won the discus while helping Grand Ledge finish third at the regional Friday.

    Shaltry had a personal-best throw of 164-2 for the Comets, who also won the 400 relay

    Holt was third in the team standings and had the winning 1,600 relay.

    DIVISION 4 AT CONCORD

    Potterville finished third with 71 points and Morrice was fourth to lead the Greater Lansing teams at the regional. Morrice’s Logan Smith was the lone double individual winner from the area and won the 100 dash and 300 hurdles.
