A Walk in the Park is an ongoing series from State Journal photographer Nick King, who intends to explore Lansing area parks one hour at a time. If you have a suggestion of a park he should visit, email him at nking@lsj.com .

East Lansing's Harrison Meadows Park is an excellent park for outdoor exercise, nature and recreation.

The neighborhood park, located at 1700 Roxburgh Ave., has a paved trail for walking, running and bike riding and is one of eight city parks that connects to the Northern Tier Trail.

The space features wooded and open areas, a pond and spots to check out wildlife like birds, deer rabbits and ducks.

Large mature and smaller trees are found throughout the space.

There’s a newer playground that children can enjoy and the park is equipped with a smaller covered pavilion for picnicking or a shaded respite.

Colorful wildflowers, cattails and lilac bushes are some of the many plants that give this park its pleasing esthetics.

There’s a basketball court right off the main parking lot. Leashed dogs are permitted. There are no onsite bathrooms.
