The Haunting Ghost of a Woman That Has Been Seen Hanging From This Bridge

Despite Asheville’s popularity and welcoming atmosphere, many eerie landmarks in this North Carolina city stand out so much that they begin to stick in your mind as you pass them. One such place is Helen’s Bridge. Yes, the city is lively, but drive far enough on College Street, and you’ll experience the lack thereof. During the day, it’s menacing enough. I wouldn’t be caught dead here at night. When the sun goes down, the darkness does all but hold back, consuming both the bridge and the surrounding area.

Refrain from going into the woods. Dark entities are known to camouflage themselves within the trees and shrubbery, waiting for any sign of life to dare walk across the bridge. And do not think you’re safe driving under the bridge, either. That isn’t always so. Car batteries are known for spontaneously cutting off, leaving drivers stuck inside their vehicles until dawn. If you find yourself stuck under the bridge, refrain from looking around. Scratches from invisible branches are said to scrape against cars, and the wind in the area will begin to howl, picking up in your vicinity. Close your eyes and pray. Do not look.

The place saps all energy around it and attempts to take all signs of life with it. The reason? The bridge got its name from a mother named Helen, who lost her daughter to a fire that broke out inside the walls of Zealandia Castle. According to legend, the grief hit Helen with such force that she fled her home. The bridge that would soon be named after Helen allowed for safe travel when leaving the castle, but she had another purpose for it on this fateful day.

With remorse and pain in Helen’s heart, she leaped off the bridge, taking her own life. Whatever demons were haunting Helen to commit such an action could be the same entities hiding in the woods surrounding each side of the bridge.

Do not provoke Helen’s ghost if you come here out of curiosity. Some have reported Helen coming to them. However, this usually means she needs directions to continue finding her little girl. Others are less fortunate, seeing Helen’s body hanging from the bridge and repeating the horrific action that she had once done in life.
