LAPLACE, La. – In a creative and educational tribute to Black History Month, the Ascension of Our Lord Catholic School (AOL School) is inviting the community to experience history in a novel way through its Black History Living Wax Museum. Under the guidance of Principal Addie Melancon, M.Ed., students from 3rd to 7th grade have been deeply immersed in projects that bring to life the achievements and stories of renowned Black figures across a spectrum of fields, including music, film, sports, and politics.

The innovative project saw students selecting a famous Black personality to research and embody, culminating in presentations to their peers before the Mardi Gras break. These presentations allowed students to delve into the lives and accomplishments of their chosen figures, fostering an educational experience that extends beyond traditional classroom learning.

As a next step, AOL School is extending an invitation to the wider community to visit their campus and engage with the Living Wax Museum. The event, set for Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. in Don Bosco Hall aims to share the rich learning experience of the students with a broader audience, celebrating the diverse contributions of Black individuals to society. There will be a $2.00 charge for entry with concessions being sold on-site.
