Moonlight Market: Christmas in July

Shawnee’s Moonlight Market returns on Thursday, July 18 with Christmas in July. Shoppers will be able to browse and shop from dozens of vendors, enjoy drinks from Shawnee breweries, dine from local food trucks, all while enjoying live music. Thursday will also be the community’s first chance to the support the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund for 2024. This year, Mayor Mickey Sandifer selected Shawnee Community Services and Summit Ranch as the two beneficiary organizations for his first Christmas Tree Fund. RCFD#1 holds Ribbon Cutting for New Ashland Bottoms Volunteer Fire Station #102
RILEY CO., Kan. (WIBW) - The Riley County Fire District #1 unveiled a new volunteer fire station in southern Riley County Friday morning. The new Ashland Bottoms volunteer fire station in Manhattan was celebrated with a dedication ribbon-cutting ceremony. Construction began in February of this year and was paid for with existing fire district project funds. The new station is a major upgrade over the one it is replacing, which was built in the 1960s and was outdated.

Lawrence Municipal Court to accept $15 of school supplies to cover $50 of fines
For a second year running, Lawrence Municipal Court is holding a school supply drive that will allow people to pay off $50 in fines with $15 worth of school supplies. “Participants can purchase $15 worth of new school supplies from the approved supply list below and bring them to the Lawrence Municipal Court along with the receipt to get $50 credited towards a traffic infraction and/or parking fines,” according to a Friday news release from the city.
