Adrian Wojnarowski is leaving a good chunk of change on the table from ESPN in order to switch careers.

The longtime NBA reporter Wojnarowski shocked the sports world on Wednesday by announcing his retirement from both ESPN and from the news industry. Wojnarowski is now set to become the general manager of a notable college basketball program .

In the wake of the news, Andrew Marchand of The Athletic revealed how much Wojnarowski is leaving behind on his ESPN contract — roughly $20 million. Marchand notes that Wojnarowski had three more years left on his deal with the network at about $7 million per year.

Wojnarowski, 55, had been working as a sportswriter and reporter for the last three decades or so. He first rose to national prominence with Yahoo! Sports in the late 2000s and eventually joined ESPN in 2017. All the way through his retirement, Wojnarowski was known as perhaps the top NBA newsbreaker in the game, dropping countless enormous scoops over the years (known as “Woj bombs”).

Though $20 million is a lot of money to walk away from, Wojnarowski will be able to recoup some of that with his new college basketball job. We also heard reports earlier in the day on Wednesday that Wojnarowski had good reason for his abrupt retirement .
