Haason Reddick has continued to hold out while he tries to force a trade from the New York Jets, but the star pass-rusher almost certainly will not be rejoining his former team.

Jets reporter Rich Cimini made the surprising revelation last week that Reddick would not be opposed to a trade that sent him back to the Philadelphia Eagles. However, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media noted on Monday that the Jets and Eagles would not be able to swing a deal like that even if both teams were interested.

NFL rules prohibit teams from re-acquiring a player via trade until two seasons have elapsed since the original deal.

That means the only way Reddick could wind up back with the Eagles this season is if the Jets cut him, and it is highly unlikely that they will do that. Reddick is in the final year of his deal, so he is set to become a free agent after the season. Though, the final year of Reddick’s contract would toll into 2025 if he were to sit out the entire 2024 season.

The Jets sent a conditional 2026 third-round draft pick to the Eagles for Reddick back in March.

Reddick was originally set to make around $14 million in the final year of his contract this season, but he has already forfeited a significant amount of that with his holdout. There have been reports that he assured the Jets he was fine with his contract situation before the trade was completed. The 30-year-old is now refusing to play for his new team without a new deal.
