Rashee Rice suffered what appeared to be a very serious knee injury during the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, but there has not yet been any confirmation of that.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters on Thursday that doctors are waiting for the swelling to subside in Rice’s knee before performing more tests.

“Rashee’s situation is we’re getting the swelling out of his knee and then he’s gonna have further tests next week,” Reid said. “We really don’t have anything to tell you from there. We’ll see how these tests go next week.”

Rice was carted off the field after he suffered a knee injury during the first quarter of Kansas City’s 17-10 win over the Chargers. The injury occurred when Patrick Mahomes took out Rice’s right leg while the quarterback was trying to make a tackle after throwing an interception. You can see the freak play here .

Reid told reporters during the game that Rice’s knee injury “doesn’t look good.” There was then a report that Rice tore his ACL and would miss the remainder of the season .

It would stand to reason that Rice did not suffer a torn ACL, otherwise tests probably would have been able to confirm that by now. If the star wide receiver did avoid a torn ACL, he may be able to play again this season.

Rice leads the Chiefs this year with 24 catches for 288 yards and 2 touchdowns. It sounds like he will be out a while, but the fact that Kansas City has not confirmed a season-ending injury could be a positive sign.
