UCLA defensive lineman Luke Schuermann found out very quickly on Saturday how much different the Big Ten is from Division III football.

Schuermann, a senior, is in his first season with the Bruins after transferring from Johns Hopkins. He was playing defensive end for the Bruins in the team’s 27-11 loss to Penn State in Happy Valley.

Penn State had the ball early in the second quarter and put offensive lineman Vega Ioane in motion from the slot. Ioane absolutely wrecked Schuermann, who no doubt was not expecting to be faced with such a massive blocker.

    Yeesh, he got destroyed.

Ioane is listed at 6-foot-4 and 346 pounds. Schuermann is listed at 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds. Ioane had about 100 pounds on Schuermann, and it showed.

That play encapsulated the game as the Nittany Lions led 27-3 and never were really challenged.
