Adrian Wojnarowski had a classy message for Shams Charania after the latter was named Woj’s successor at ESPN.

Last month, Wojnarowski abruptly announced his retirement from reporting NBA news to move on to a much less stressful job .

It didn’t take long for the “Worldwide Leader” to find Woj’s replacement.

Charania broke the news Monday that he was being named ESPN’s new senior NBA insider, a role formerly held by Wojnarowski. You can read Shams’ full statement here .

Wojnarowski appeared on “The Jim Rome Show” after Charania’s ESPN move went public. The 55-year-old had a wholesome message for his former rival.

“Shams texted me after I announced my retirement,” Woj told Rome. “What I told him is what I would say today: I hope he has as fulfilling and as rewarding of a career as I had. I certainly wish that for him.”

Charania’s first big break came in 2016 when he joined Yahoo Sports. Two years later, Shams moved to The Athletic and stayed with the New York Times-owned website until his latest move to ESPN.

Wojnarowski added that Shams will be surrounded by the “best of the best” possible colleagues at ESPN such as Jeff Passan, Adam Schefter, and Pete Thamel. But things might be at least a little bit awkward for Charania at first given that one of the aforementioned men was actually considered for the NBA role too .
