The New York Jets made the shocking decision on Tuesday to fire head coach Robert Saleh, and you might be surprised to see who is the gambling favorite to take his place.

According to odds that were released by BetOnline.ag, Bill Belichick is a heavy favorite to become the next head coach of the Jets. The former New England Patriots coach was listed with +200 odds as of Tuesday afternoon. Mike Vrabel had the second-best odds at +500, followed by Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson at +600.

Belichick is inevitably going to be linked to every NFL head coach job that opens in the coming weeks or months. The 72-year-old reportedly still wants to coach in 2025 despite taking a year off, so he will likely at least get interviews from teams.

The reason it is surprising that Belichick is viewed as one of the favorites to land the Jets job is because of his long history with the franchise. Belichick was the head coach of the Jets for exactly one day in 2000. He then resigned to join the New England Patriots, and the rest is history. The six-time Super Bowl champion has taken numerous shots at the Jets over the years .

Belichick was recently linked to a different AFC team , and there will almost certainly be plenty more. If Belichick does coach again in 2025, we tend to doubt that the Jets will be his next employer.
