The New York Jets stunned the sports world when they fired head coach Robert Saleh on Tuesday, and Aaron Rodgers insists he had nothing to do with the decision.

Rodgers discussed Saleh’s firing during the quarterback’s Wednesday appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” Rodgers said he loves Saleh and that the two “have a very solid relationship” and have since they met in 2021. The former MVP also said he feels badly for Saleh and his family.

Eventually, Rodgers addressed the elephant in the room, which is that some people believe he had a hand in Saleh being fired . Rodgers blasted the narrative.

“As far as any of the ridiculous allegations out there: I’m not gonna spend more than one sentence in response to it, and that is that I resent any of those accusations because they’re patently false,” Rodgers said. “It’s interesting the amount of power that people think that I have, which I don’t.”

Rogers and Saleh had an awkward public disagreement after New York’s loss in Week 4, but a report on Tuesday claimed the relationship between the two was in a good place .

Jets owner Woody Johnson said the decision to fire Saleh was his alone. Rodgers admits he spoke with Johnson on Monday night, but the 40-year-old said it was a brief five-minute conversation and Saleh’s job status was not discussed.

While we will probably never know if Johnson gave Rodgers an opportunity to go to bat for Saleh, it is hardly a surprise that Rodgers reacted the way he did to the rumors that essentially labeled him a coach-killer.
