3-time NBA champion announces his retirement

A three-time NBA champion has decided to call it a career.

Veteran swingman Danny Green announced on his podcast Thursday morning that he is retiring from the NBA. He later issued a statement on social media thanking his “friends, family, coaches, and teammates from high school, college and the pros.”

Green is one of only four players in NBA history to win a championship with three different teams. His first title came as a member of the San Antonio Spurs in 2014. Green then went on to win championships with the Toronto Raptors in 2019 and Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

Known mostly for his three-point shooting, the 37-year-old Green was also highly respected for being a leader and great locker-room presence. He finishes his career with 8.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in 832 contests. Green shot an even 40% from three-point range.

Green spent the bulk of his 15-year NBA career with the Spurs from 2010-2018. He played in two games for the Philadelphia 76ers last season.

Green’s best season came when he averaged 11.7 points per game with San Antonio in 2014-15. He also made the NBA All-Defensive Team as a member of the Spurs in 2016-17.
