New detail emerges about Haason Reddick’s holdout with Jets

Haason Reddick has yet to play a snap with the New York Jets as he holds out for a new contract, and a new report claims the team offered him a big raise earlier in the season.

Reddick is in the final year of a contract he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles before he was traded to New York. He was set to make $14.25 million, but he has already forfeited a significant portion of that while refusing to play.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the Jets made Reddick an offer earlier this season that would have paid him “far more” than the $14.25 million. Rapoport says the offer would have made up for the fines Reddick had to pay and then some, but the star pass-rusher turned it down.

“There was a point this season, sources say, when all parties believed the holdout was gonna be over and that Haason Reddick was going to come in,” Rapoport said. “The Jets made, I’m told, a strong one-year offer that not only would have made up for the fines, would have allowed Haason Reddick to make far more than the $14.25 million he was set to make this year. Reddick turned that down wanting a multi-year deal. Now, he must show up by Week 13 to avoid his contract tolling for next season.”

Assuming the report is true, Reddick likely turned down the deal because he wants a long-term contract. The big question is whether he misled the Jets regarding his contract situation when they agreed to send a draft pick to Philadelphia in exchange for him during the offseason.

Reddick recently parted ways with his agent. The 30-year-old was supposedly dumped by the agency because of his holdout , but he would probably tell a different side to the story.
