Davante Adams traded to AFC team

Davante Adams has successfully forced a trade for the second time in less than three years.

The Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday agreed to a trade to send Adams to the New York Jets, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. Las Vegas in return will receive a conditional fourth-round draft pick that can become a second-round pick based on Adams’ performance.

The Jets had been viewed as the favorite to land Adams all along, though there were questions about whether Las Vegas would be willing to compromise enough to complete a trade . Some also wondered if New York would want to give up significant draft capital given that they just fired their head coach and have not looked like a playoff contender, but that did not deter the team from making the big move.

Adams and Aaron Rodgers were teammates on the Green Bay Packers for eight seasons from 2014-2021. Adams made the Pro Bowl for five consecutive years during that span, and he and Rodgers were one of the best quarterback/wide receiver duos in the NFL.

Adams forced a trade from Green Bay in large part because he wanted to play with Derek Carr, who was his teammate in college at Fresno State. The Raiders moved on from Carr after the 2022 season, and Adams has since expressed some regret over the way he handled the situation .

The Jets fell to 2-4 with their 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night. Their decision to acquire Adams shows that they still believe they can contend for a playoff spot.

Though he has missed the last three weeks with a hamstring injury, Adams remains one of the NFL’s best wide receivers. He has 18 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown in three games.
