Magic make big decision on Mac McClung

Mac McClung is best known for his exploits in the Slam Dunk Contest, but he will now get the opportunity to show what he can do on an NBA roster.

The Orlando Magic are converting McClung’s contract into a two-way deal, suggesting he has made the team to start the 2024-25 season, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

McClung signed a partially guaranteed deal with Orlando for training camp in a bid to make the team. He did the same last year, but ultimately did not make the cut. This year, he has.

McClung has appeared in four career NBA games, but none since the 2022-23 season. While he is best known for his back-to-back wins in the Dunk Contest, he was the MVP of the G League last year, where the 25-year-old averaged 25.2 points per game in 14 appearances for the Osceola Magic. He is unlikely to play a big role with the Magic, and a two-way contract means he could still be reassigned to the G League at some point, but he will at least get the chance to prove his worth on an NBA roster.
