Anthony Edwards makes surprising comments about his NBA future

At just 23 years old, Anthony Edwards may already be getting a wandering eye.

The Minnesota Timberwolves star Edwards is set to appear with Minnesota Vikings counterpart Justin Jefferson in an upcoming feature for ESPN. In a preview teaser released by ESPN this weekend, Edwards was shown making some surprising comments about his NBA future.

“I told my buddies, if I win a ring in the next three-to-four years, I’m going to play football,” said Edwards.

The former No. 1 overall pick Edwards is already a multi-time NBA All-Star and looks like a potential next face of the league. He just led Minnesota to their first conference finals berth in two decades and was recently rewarded with a designated rookie max extension worth $244 million through 2029. Thus, it seems very unlikely that Edwards would give all that up and settle for less money and less individual popularity in a much more physically-intense sport like football.

But Edwards did play football in his youth, excelling at running back, quarterback, and cornerback and becoming a standout on the Pop Warner circuit. If he plays out his current contract and somehow leads Minnesota to an NBA title in the process, Edwards will be 28 years old with nearly $300 million in NBA career earnings banked. For a player who has already hinted at an interest in pulling a Bo Jackson before , that might be the right set of circumstances to entice Edwards into a side quest.
