Bulls' "Ring of Honor" Ceremony Turns Disastrous

    2024-01-14

And why am I not surprised.

Friday night the Chicago Bulls tried to honor some of the key players in their distant glorious past. And, as has generally been true of their more recent past with anything associated with the Bulls, it turned out terribly. And it was somewhat predictably. First of all, the biggest players didn’t show.

If Jordan and Pippen weren’t going to show, what was the point?

Jordan is easily the greatest player in Bulls history and Pippen is the second best. So, they probably would like to get together and reminisce, right? Maybe they could compare family photos. What’s that? Seems like that might be a bad idea.

It seems Pippen’s ex-wife is now dating MJ’s son. Well, that’s bit awkward. Larsa Pippen did say Michael Jordan gave the relationship his blessing.

I’m not sure that makes things any smoother. Pippen has made some off the wall remarks about just how great Jordan was. Frankly, Scottie is just a little hard to follow sometimes.

The bottom line, though Jordan did send a video for the event, he didn’t, for whatever meeting show up. So, what’s the point. It’s like the Bulls put a “Kick Me” sign on their back, and it’s seems like Jordan and Pippen obliged. If the honor means that little to those being honored, what’s the point? It just looks weak and needy.

    But it gets worse

The Bulls also honored the GM/architect of those great Bulls Jerry Krause. Krause passed away some years ago, but his widow was there to see him honored.

Just a real quick history lesson. Michael Jordan couldn’t stand Krause and constantly belittled him, calling him “Crumbs.”

Some say that Krause didn’t make things any better, but still, what happened Saturday Night was inexcusable.

When Krause was introduced, fans booed him, and his widow broke down in tears. It was the worst example of “honoring somebody I’ve ever seen. And one of the saddest things I’ve seen at a sporting event.

For my money, Michael Jordan was the greatest basketball player I’ve ever seen, but not without flaws as a person. I think Jordan’s refusal to let a slight, real or perceived go, led to, at least in part, the fiasco at the “Ring of Honor” ceremony Friday night.

    What a clown show.
