    Centennial football earns victory on the road in season opener against Cleveland

    Centennial (1-0) defeated Cleveland (0-1) 35-28 on the road on Friday evening to open up its season.

    The game was a tight contest throughout. Centennial had a 7-6 lead with 6:42 in the second quarter when Hawks quarterback Zaiden Davis scored a rushing touchdown to extend it to 14-6. The Storm tied the game at 14-14 on a swing pass touchdown and two-point conversion with 3:29 left in the second quarter, and both teams entered halftime at the same score.

    Davis threw a pick-6 with 10:09 in the third quarter to give Cleveland a 20-14 lead, but the senior bounced back with his second rushing touchdown with 5:10 in the third to put Centennial in front to 21-20. The Storm earned another touchdown and two-point conversion combination for a 28-21 lead with 2:31 in the third, but that would be their final score.

    The Hawks rallied with 14 unanswered points, starting with a touchdown catch from Jordan Lucas near the end of the third quarter. Davis then threw for another touchdown with three minutes left to play to put Centennial up for good, 35-28.

    Next, the Hawks face Atrisco Heritage (0-1) on the road at 1 p.m. next Saturday.
