NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The U.S. Department of Commerce is investing millions to boost local economies that have been impacted by wildfires. That includes small business support in Mora County and a wildfire resiliency training center in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

The agency is putting $3 million towards the Mora County Complex, a building complex to house county operations and business development work. The multi-million grant is supported by $750,000 in local funding.

The U.S. Department of Commerce is also putting $1.9 million towards the revitalization of the Douglas-Sixth Historic District in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Luna Community College will also get $500,000 for workforce training related to wildfire resilience training center. The funds come from the Economic Development Agency (EDA) and are boosted by local funds.

“The EDA is a valuable partner for New Mexico, and these grants provide much needed relief to a significant pain point in our communities,” Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said in a press release. “Addressing disaster preparedness and building a skilled workforce are essential components of economic development, which is crucial to the health of our rural communities.”
