LISTEN NOW: Nick Hexum talks 311 Day 2024 with Klein.Ally.Show
Nick hopes 311 's traditional fan gathering, happening at the Park MGM in Las Vegas this year, will be better than any of their previous events as he and the band "keep evolving the production, the musicianship, the song selection," revealing they've got surprise covers in store, deep cuts, and this time fan-voted songs on the setlists. “We've been rehearsing to brush off the cobwebs on some really cool old songs," he says. "It's two nights of just everything Rock, and a lot of different peaks and valleys.”
Explaining the origin of the celebration, aside from the obvious perfect fit, Hexum remembers, “Back in 2000, we had a show booked with The Cramps in New Orleans at the State Theater, and we were like, ‘OK, it's March 11th, let's call it ‘311 Day.’ Let's play all of our songs, 3 hours and 11 minutes.’ it just turned into such a legendary show that we were like, ’All right, let's make it a thing now....’ We just kind of stumbled into it because our name implies a date."
Nick says he’s also fully expecting to see a ton of familiar faces during the two-day event, describing ‘311 Day’ as “Kind of like a convention, where people come from Australia, the Philippines, South America, Europe,” he says. “It's a place where people have known each other online, and then they finally get to meet in person... People like, meet their spouse through it and stuff. It's really a special thing."
Hexum also briefly discussed the band’s forthcoming 14th studio album, which is already recorded and in the mixing stages. “We're super excited,” he says. “I call it just like ‘311 on steroids,’ where just everything is better, super huge Rock and riffs, and great melodies and new production styles. It's a musical journey that just we keep finding ways to move forward.”
