    New study ranks Nevada a poor place for retired veterans

    Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – Nevada is home to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Creech Air Force Base in Indian Springs, and the Naval Air Station in Fallon, but a new study from the financial website WalletHub says that veterans may not want to linger in Nevada once their days in the military have come to an end.

    Out of the 50 states and District of Columbia, WalletHub 47 th overall. Only Washington D.C., Vermont, New Mexico and Oregon fared worse in a study of the Best States for Military Retirees list.

    WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 28 key indicators of retirement-friendliness for veterans. The data set ranges from job opportunities for veterans to housing affordability to the quality of VA hospitals.

    Especially hurting Nevada’s overall rating were low rankings in the categories of Quality of Life (45 th ), Health Care (48th), Homeless Vets (tied for last), and Job Opportunities (49 th ).

    WalletHub ranked South Carolina as the best state for veterans to retire, followed by Florida, Virginia, Maryland and North Dakota.
