Duane ‘Keefe D’ Martin, an alleged participant in the 1996 murder of Hip-Hop icon Tupac Shakur, is expected to be released from jail later this week after posting bond.

On Friday (June 21), KTNV reported that Keefe D has acquired the $750,000 required for his release from jail, which he is expected to post following a court hearing on Tuesday (June 25). The California native has been incarcerated at Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada since being arrested in September 2023 and charged in Shakur’s death.

He has plead not guilty to the charges and continues to maintain his innocence in response to the accusations against him.

During the hearing, Martin is expected to receive the terms and conditions of his release, and may potentially have to account for how he amassed the $750,000 for bond. The proceedings will mark the latest instance in which Martin has sought out a release from custody, as he was previously denied bail due to his perceived danger to the community and ties to the South Side Crips Gang based in Compton.

Martin, the uncle of Orlando, the alleged triggerman in the drive-by shooting that resulted in Pac’s death, has spoken openly about the string of events that lead to the rap star’s death on multiple occasions. He has claimed that he was a passenger in the vehicle from which the drive-by shooting was commited in several interviews, as well as in his 2019 book Compton Street Legend .

Yet, Martin has since changed his tone, claiming that his recollection of the events involving Shakur’s death were fabricated in an attempt to gain money and publicity.

“The truthfulness of the content of the interviews was never verified,” Davis’ lawyer has argued. “The book and interviews were done for entertainment purposes and to make money from a situation that [LAPD officers] and others had already profited [from].”

Martin’s murder trial is scheduled to begin in November 2024.
