Las Vegas celebrates the arrival of a new baby peafowl at Floyd Lamb Park

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Floyd Lamb Park celebrated the arrival of a new baby peafowl Monday, ensuring the continuation of this species within the Las Vegas valley.

In January , Las Vegas was in urgent need of help for a situation concerning its peafowl population. With only six male peacocks remaining and no female peahens nearby for breeding, the city risked losing the peafowl species from its environment.

Councilwoman Nancy Brune, in an interview with 8 News Now reporter James Schaeffer, recognized the impact of media coverage in rallying community support to prevent the extinction of the peafowl species in the Las Vegas valley. This collective response led Henderson residents Scott and Carmen Coates to donate three peahens, providing companionship for the six peacock bachelors .

In April, Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs celebrated the arrival of three donated peahens. The new additions of peahens marked a pivotal moment because this donation was what saved the Las Vegas valley from losing its peafowl population.

Janna Hudson, Floyd Lamb Park’s Facility and Event Coordinator, at the time, emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of the newly introduced peahens. Which in return allowed the new set of peacocks and peahens to breed successfully and continue their presence in the Las Vegas valley.

The city’s efforts to preserve the peacock population have since been successful as the City of Las Vegas announced the new baby peafowl at Lamb Park at Tule Springs on X .

To ensure the preservation of wildlife, the City of Las Vegas advises against feeding the animals at the park.
