LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A nearly $20 million project helping transform the ever-growing southwest Las Vegas valley is now complete.

The Cactus Avenue Improvement Project started in April 2023 and helped transform the road between Fort Apache Road and Buffalo Drive from one lane in each direction that stopped at the wash into a fully paved roadway with two lanes in each direction and a bike path.

On Wednesday, Clark County Commissioners will celebrate the completion of the project with a ribbon cutting after the installation of a four-way traffic signal at Cactus Avenue and Buffalo Drive which is near Desert Oasis High School, Jones Blackhurst Elementary School, and Mountain’s Edge Regional Park.

Other project improvements in the area include the installation of storm drain improvements, curb, gutter, sidewalks, sidewalk ramps, utility adjustments, and the addition of new streetlights.

“Cactus Avenue is now a fully improved roadway stretching about 10 miles from Spencer Street on the east side of the Las Vegas Valley all the way to Fort Apache Road in the southwest,” Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones stated. “It allows for better connections to communities in southwest neighborhoods to and from the Henderson area.”
