Jordan Griff found a very rich silver lining in Las Vegas.

The former Illinois poker player earned $6 million after finishing second place Wednesday night at the 2024 World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas. The world champion is 38-year-old Texas player Jonathan Tamayo, who earns $10,000,000 and a gold bracelet for the victory.

Griff was eliminated around 9 p.m. Peoria time when he called all-in with top pair on the board against Tamayo's flopped two pair. Griff's hand did not improve on the turn or river, and Tamayo leaped into the arms of his supporters as the new world champion.

Griff, 30, had the most chips heading into the final table of the world's most prestigious poker tournament on Tuesday. He survived to Wednesday's final three along with eventual champion Tamayo, and third-place finisher 33-year-old Swedish online pro Niklas Astedt, who earned $4,000,000 for his finish.

"I'm ecstatic with the results and happy I came this far and try better next year," Griff said in a postgame interview posted @pokerorg on X.com. "It's the dream. It's everything I ever wanted. I'm amazed in myself the calmness I had on the final table, and the way I played the last three days. I'm just extremely proud of myself."
