At no point in the footage did anyone come over to offer assistance or check on her as she lay unconscious in the gym pool for an additional 10 minutes, although people could be seen glancing in her direction.

Even while she was struggling, fellow pool-goers could be seen swimming around her, seemingly oblivious to her situation.

The woman has been identified as 58-year-old United States Air Force veteran Leticia Gonzales Triplett. On February 4, the day of the fateful incident, she went for a morning swim at the North Decatur Las Vegas Athletic Club, only to never return.

At one point in the video, she was seen briefly managing to pull herself out of the water using the guardrails of the stairs of the pool . However, she accidentally ended up in the water merely moments later.

After she lay motionless in the water for quite some time, a concerned swimmer from an adjacent pool noticed and rushed over to help.

The good samaritan dragged her to the edge of the pool where a group of people had gathered by then, and she was pulled out of the pool following the combined efforts of all of them.

Those present performed CPR on her for three minutes before the arrival of paramedics . However, Triplett was soon pronounced dead.

Her obituary on Perches Funeral Homes described Triplett as a "very thoughtful person" who "always remembered birthdays and was the first one to send a birthday card."

"She enjoyed spending time at home and watching her favorite tv shows. She also loved Facetiming her kids and grandkids," the obituary page read.

It also mentioned that she had served in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years, following which retired to Las Vegas and worked a civilian job at the Nellis Air Force Base for 12 more years. She is survived by her son and five grandchildren.

Oganna Brown, an attorney representing the Las Vegas Athletic Club, said in a statement that the 58-year-old woman was seen arriving at the gym "in crutches" before she got into the pool.

Joel Henriod, the attorney representing the South Nevada Health District, weighed in on the incident, commenting that Triplett was swimming in "unsafe conditions" as there were no lifeguards present at the pool at the time.

Henriod also commented on the apparent indifference shown by the people who went about their day without stopping to help Triplett, saying that the customers of the Las Vegas Athletic Club should not have been the ones to pull her out of the pool as that job was not theirs to do.

"If it’s not their job to be looking... Unfortunately, you might as well be alone," the South Nevada Health District attorney said.

Brown, the attorney for the gym, added that Triplett's death was a "unique" event and that there have not been any drowning incidents at the pool in decades.

"In 46 years, there has not been a drowning event... This is an anomaly, and this was not a direct drowning event. This was a cardiac arrest," she was quoted as saying.

However, an investigation by the South Nevada Health District has revealed that there was another near-death incident at the pool merely days after Triplett's passing.
