UFC Apex expansion could lead to "many more events" at venue

The UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas is undergoing a significant expansion, and the end result could be more events in the venue.

News of the expansion was revealed by Ken Hathaway of the MMA Road Show and MMA Junkie.

"UFC Apex doing some expansion, making room for things such as more restrooms and a box office," Hathaway reported on X. "A couple of the major sticking points for future events at the venue seem to be getting addressed. Opens the doors for many more events to take place in the space."

UFC Apex opened in 2019, and in the time since, has been the setting of roughly 100 of the promotion's events. During the pandemic, the venue hosted several major pay-per-views, but in the time since, most of the events since have been smaller scale, with only a few ranked fighters competing each time.

The venue can also only accommodate about 1000 spectators, so it provides a much different — namely quieter — atmosphere than a typical arena show.

While the ongoing expansion of the facility could lead to more UFC events at the Apex, Hathaway noted in a follow-up post that it is more likely to lead to other kinds of events occurring in the venue, such as pro wrestling shows, concerts, and stand-up comedy performances.

He also noted that he has heard the expansion will take approximately four months to complete.

The next event at the UFC Apex is slated for Saturday, July 20. The card will be headlined by a strawweight clash between ranked contenders Amanda Lemos and Virna Jandiroba. There is not a single ranked fighter on the card beyond the main event.

In addition to UFC events, the venue also regularly hosts Dana White's controversial Power Slap shows, and also recently hosted an NXT Battleground pro wrestling event.
