Former Las Vegas Raiders running back Kenyan Drake had yet to find a new team in free agency this offseason, and now we know why.

On his Instagram account, Drake released a statement announcing he's retiring from the NFL, and he has since confirmed why to Josina Anderson.

"It's been an incredible ride. Hard to believe 8 seasons have come and gone," Drake wrote . "I’ve loved the journey - the wins, the moments big and small, the comradery, the energy, all of it.  I can’t say I loved everything (if you’ve ever done training camp in Miami you can relate lol), but certainly appreciate the lows and the grind, and know those moments grew me as a football player and more importantly as a person.  Ready to enjoy a little retirement and see where the next chapter takes me. Thanks to everyone that was along for the ride with me - wouldn’t change a thing."

    Here's what he told Anderson:

"Yes it is (true I'm retiring). It felt like the right time," Drake said to Anderson. "I love the game, but I don't love the business. I'm at peace with the decision. I'm healthy and ready to start the next chapter of my life."

A former third-round pick of the Miami Dolphins, Drake spent one season with the Raiders in 2021, serving as a backup to Josh Jacobs. Drake tallied 254 rushing yards, 291 receiving yards and three total touchdowns for Las Vegas.

Prior to his stint with the Raiders, Drake spent three-plus seasons with the Dolphins before being traded to the Arizona Cardinals in 2019. He also had stints with the Baltimore Ravens and Green Bay Packers in the final two years of his career.
