This year during the Stellar Awards’ week of inspirational events, the National Association of Gospel Radio (NAGR) held a breakfast where they introduced and chartered a new Western Region chapter.

The NAGR chapter will be led by Cathy Carroll and ML6 — two radio vets who have been influential in keeping Gospel music alive on the radio. In between a women’s panel and musical performances by DOE and Darnisha Bellary, they honored singer/songwriter DOE, radio personality Pat Pennington, and radio promoter Debra “Snoopy” Hanna with awards of their own.

“I look forward to working more with the radio stations here and bringing more Gospel music to Las Vegas and hopefully the whole west coast. A guy just asked me about bringing more Gospel music to Sacramento. So, God is good and whatever His plan is, I hope I’m here to help work it,” Carroll told ELEV8. “It feels good to be in the business where people recognize me as someone who can make a difference and that’s what I want to do. Make a difference.”

NAGR is “America’s preferred trade association for radio professionals” working in the Gospel/inspirational format. Its membership of over 1,000 leaders spans four regions and 20 states, representing stations that reach over a million listeners collectively.

In addition to introducing a new chapter of NAGR today, the organization announced that they’d be hosting the first-ever Gospel Airplay Awards honoring the promoters who work singles to ensure their placement on air.

There’s a lot more in store for NAGR as their efforts grow across different Gospel arenas nationwide — especially when it comes to the Stellar Awards.

“We’re working together, collaboratively to keep radio and gospel music alive,” Rhonda Sams, co-founder of the Stellar Awards StellarPlus Experience said. “We were delighted to work with NAGR last year with our Masterclass and we’re excited to work with them in bringing back our radio row and podcast row.”

As NAGR looks to expand their reach, they also announced recently signing a memorandum of understanding that designates them as the official mentors and trainers of students at HBCUs with radio stations.
