One of boxing’s biggest stars may be heading to Las Vegas to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. Per ESPN’s Mike Coppinger , Canelo Alvarez is "in the process of finalizing" a deal to defend his status as undisputed super middleweight champion against Edgar Berlanga in September.

That fight would be held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Premier Boxing Champions would host the bout as part of a restructured deal for Canelo. Matchroom Boxing represents Berlanga.

A four-division champion, Canelo (61-2-2) has beaten several of the sport's best, including Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto and Gennady Golovkin. In less than 11 months, Canelo became the undisputed super middleweight champion , beating Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant. The Mexican fighter is on a four-fight win streak since 2022.

Canelo last fought in May, retaining his belts against Jaime Munguia . Mexican Independence Day has been reserved for Canelo fights in recent years, though there would be competition with the UFC heading to The Sphere that same day .

Berlanga (22-0) has won 17 fights via knockout following an amateur career with over 160 wins. "The Chosen One" moved from Top Rank to Matchroom, signing a multi-fight deal with the promotion with the promise of a Canelo fight . The 27-year-old would be competing in the biggest fight of his young career.

Here is all there is to know about a potential Canelo vs. Berlanga fight.
