The Las Vegas Raiders ' quarterback competition is the most intriguing storyline of training camp. The team will have to choose between an experienced veteran in Gardner Minshew versus a young player with potential in Aidan O'Connell.

Though Minshew and O'Connell have different strengths and weaknesses, Las Vegas needs competent quarterback play to return to the postseason for the first time since 2021.

Head coach Antonio Pierce is entering his first full season as Raiders head coach and will be tasked with choosing which quarterback will set Las Vegas up for success during the 2024 campaign.

The former NFL linebacker spoke to the media on Friday about what he is looking for at the position and gave an intriguing and detailed answer .

"We don't need nobody to go out there and be a super hero," Pierce said. "They understand we have a lot of talent around us at the wide receiver position, tight end position, and obviously at the running back position. Just allow your weapons to make the plays, don't force it."

Based on Pierce's answer, Minshew fits the description of what the team is looking for in a starting quarterback. The 28-year-old has typically limited mistakes and taken care of the football, and has often been described as a game manager.

While O'Connell would be my pick and still has a good chance of winning the job, Minshew could be the answer at the position in the short term.
