Dana White Announces UFC 306 Fight Card
UFC CEO Dana White has announced the entire UFC 306 fight card. The event will go down at the Las Vegas Sphere on September 14 and will honor Mexican Independence Day. The promotion has teased the card will be the best live viewing experience in combat sports history.
The entire UFC 306 main card is listed below.
Main Card:
(C) Sean O’Malley vs. Merab Dvalishvili- Bantamweight Title Fight
(C) Alexa Grasso vs. No. 1 Valentina Shevchenko- Women’s Flyweight Title Fight
No. 3 Brian Ortega vs. No. 12 Diego Lopes- Featherweight Bout
Daniel Zellhuber vs. Esteban Ribovics- UFC Lightweight Bout
Ronaldo Rodriguez vs. Ode Osbourne- Flyweight Bout
Prelims:
Manel Torres vs. Ignacio Bahamondes- Lightweight Bout
Yazmin Jauregui vs. Ketlen Souza- Women’s Strawweight Bout
Raul Rosas Jr. vs. Aoriqileng- Bantamweight Bout
The most important bouts from UFC 306 are the championship bouts that sit atop the bill. In the main event, Sean O’Malley will look to defend his bantamweight title against Merab Dvalishvili. A win would give O’Malley his second title defense. That is not a given considering Dvalishvili is a strong opponent. The challenger has won ten fights in a row and has beaten a solid level of competition.
The co-main event will be a trilogy bout between Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko. That should not come as a surprise considering Grasso is the only Mexican UFC champion. The pair have a long history against one another. In their first fight, Grasso submitted Shevchenko to win the steal the title and end the former challenger’s title reign. In the rematch, the pair fought to a controversial draw. Now, at UFC 306, the pair look to put an end to their rivalry.
The remainder of the UFC 306 fight card highlights Mexican fights. This resulted in a great feature bout between Brian Ortega and Diego Lopes. Technically, neither fighter is Mexican-born, but Ortega is Mexican-American and Lopes moved to Mexico at a young age. Regardless, it is a matchup that fans want to see. That was made clear at UFC 303 where the pair were originally scheduled to fight.
UFC 306 is rounded out with Mexican prospects. It lacks massive star power; however, a handful of bouts should create fun fights.
