    Update: 1 dead, 4 injured, 30 people displaced after central Las Vegas apartment fire

    LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) —  One person is dead and four are injured after a fire tore through an apartment building in central Las Vegas late Sunday evening.

    Clark County Fire Department reports the fatality is in addition to the four people who were transported to the hospital with injuries.

    In addition, the number of people displaced from their homes due to fire and smoke damage is now at 30, according to the American Red Cross which is assisting those people.

    “Just flames and dark smoke consuming the neighborhood. “It gives me chills, I feel for the families affected,” Melanie Hanson said as she watched the fire.

    Just before 7:45 p.m., fire crews responded to 3937 Spencer Street, the Riverbend Village Apartments, after a report of a structure fire. First responders found the blaze affecting multiple apartments in the complex.

    Alicia Garcia fled her apartment with just the clothes she was wearing.

    “Now everything is lost. I left my money in there, my purse, my keys for the car.”

    Four people were taken to area medical facilities due to burns and other injuries that took place during the evacuation.

    No firefighters were injured, and the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, fire officials said.

    A total of 10 engines, two ladder trucks, two rescue units, one squad, and one air resource unit, along with one EMS coordinator, three battalion chiefs, and three investigators, were involved in fighting the blaze, officials said.

    The cause of the fire is under investigation.
