John Mayer Reveals He Is 'Out of Commission' After Sustaining Hand Injury

John Mayer is doing his best not to let a recent injury impair his ability to play guitar.

The 46-year-old musician delivered the concerning news to his fans via Instagram on Thursday, Aug. 1, revealing that he injured one of his fingers in a truck door jam last week.

"The first thing that went through my mind was, 'I really need that finger in a week,'" he wrote in his caption, referring to the show he's supposed to play in Las Vegas with Dead & Company on Thursday.

"I need all my fingers, but the left index is the team captain of my fretting hand," Mayer wrote after revealing that was the exact finger he injured. "It will heal just fine, but will be out of commission for a while."

His Instagram post included a photo of the affected finger, which appeared to be all bandaged up.

But the "New Light" artist wasn't about to let his injury get in the way of his performance.

"I have spent every day practicing guitar using the other three fingers and I think I have it sounding pretty good!" he wrote. "I've always felt like every part of me belongs to these shows, and it's my responsibility to return to the stage each night without screwing up the equipment, and I'm sorry for the misadventure here."

"The power of the music and the love for these shows will prevail!" Mayer reassured his fans, while promising to, "See ya tonight."

If all goes to plan, Mayer will be joining the rest of Dead & Company on stage Thursday night at Sphere in Las Vegas.
