FULTON COUNTY, GA - The Fulton County Board of Commissioners invites residents to a public hearing on August 18 at 10 a.m. to consider its 2021 millage rate.

The Board of Commissioners is trying to get more residents to vote for the August public hearing despite the urge of COVID-19 pandemic. Fulton County tries to reduce residents' tax burden by lowering the millage rate in 2021.

This effort demands this county to maintain a healthy financial performance over the years. Homeowners in Fulton County pay the highest property taxes in dollar terms, with the median property tax payment equaling $2,901 per year.

The Fulton County General Fund supports countywide services, including the justice system, elections, libraries, and senior services, behavioral health, and arts to support residents' welfare.

In the first semester of 2021, the General Fund's full rollback rate is on 9.330 mills. The rates have been gradually reduced from 9.776s in 2020 and 9.899 in 2019. The government initiates to maintain this reduction by the next year due to sluggish economic performance caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In general, property taxes in Georgia are relatively low. The median real estate tax payment in Georgia is only $1,771 per year, about half of the national average. The average effective property tax rate in Georgia is 0.87%.

This government discussion about the millage rate can be attended by the residents at the Fulton County Government Center, Assembly Hall, 141 Pryor Street, SW, Atlanta, GA 30303. During the COVID-19 pandemic, residents can also join remotely the discussion via Zoom by getting access from the Fulton County official website.
