Downtown Atlanta’s park trees need your help

    2021-07-27

ATLANTA, GA — Show your care for the park trees in Downtown Atlanta by volunteering. The volunteers will stake, water, weed and refresh the mulch around trees, as well as pick up any litter.

The operation will be held this Thursday, July 29. Volunteers may choose to either attend one or both of these following shifts: from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

The activity is primarily for those aged 12 years or older. Those who are 17 years or younger are required to attend with a parent or legal guardian.

Volunteers will be subject to physically heavy activity on this project, including bending, lifting, and kneeling. They must read and agree to a liability waiver to participate. To view the waiver, visit here.

Interested volunteers may want to register early. The organizer has limited the number of volunteers to three people per shift. Accepted volunteers are expected to report if they wanted to cancel or are unable to attend the shift.

Participants must bring their own gloves, masks, drinking water (in reusable containers), sunscreen, bug spray and snacks. They must also bring their own emergency medicine in case of a fatal allergic reaction to insects.

Although the organizers will provide hand weeders, hand cultivators, pitchforks, participants may bring their own. They are recommended to wear long pants, closed-toed shoes or boots, and clothes that can get dirty.

Unvaccinated volunteers are required to use a mask and keep a 6 - 12 feet distance from another person. They must cover coughs and sneezes with elbows, and they must reduce face touching by keeping their hair up or wearing a hat.

Unfortunately, people with COVID-19 symptoms or who have been in in-person contact with people with COVID-19 may not participate in the project. If the volunteer feels ill during the shift, they are advised to go home.

Participants will meet at Trees Atlanta Operations Facility at 1050 Murphy Avenue SW, Atlanta, GA 30310. They will then travel with four other people in a Trees Atlanta truck to the work site downtown.

Participants must arrive on time if they do not want to be left behind. The truck will depart 5 minutes after the time stated. There will be no restroom on the working site.
