ATLANTA, GA—Since COVID-19 started last year, a lot of restaurants need to temporarily close or even discontinue, including several vegan restaurants in Atlanta.

The following are some updates on several vegan restaurants across Atlanta:

In East Atlanta Village, because of positive COVID-19 outcomes among certain staff members, the restaurant and bar Argosy in the heart of EAV stated on Sunday, July 18, that it was temporarily discontinuing dine-in operations.

The restaurant aims to continue serving customers on the terrace, as well as takeaway and delivery, until enough personnel have been cleared to work securely.

While in Cabbagetown, responding to a sudden increase in COVID-19-cases in Georgia caused by the contagious Delta form, Wylie Street bar 97 Estoria is resuming its mask-wearing rule for employees, all of whom are vaccinated. Patrons who are not sitting or dining and drinking at 97 Estoria are asked to do the same out of an extra precaution, according to the bar.

In Candle Park, Gato, a renowned neighborhood restaurant, has ended its popular weekend breakfast service and will now solely serve dinner. The move was driven by personnel shortages that are currently affecting eateries around the country.

After spending the previous year serving takeaway and then opening for sidewalk sitting this spring, the restaurant returned for dine-in service in late June.

Owner Nicolas Stinson aims to expand Gato's pop-ups and chef partnerships, beginning with Gigi's, an Italian restaurant pop-up. Starting on August 2, Gigi's will serve "New York-style Italian food" from Gato's kitchen on Monday and Tuesday evenings for the following three months. And Stinson's dinners will be served at the restaurant from Wednesday to Sunday, with a focus on cuisine from southern Mexico and the Yucatán.

However, there are also some who finally opened new restaurants in the middle of this pandemic.

One of those restaurants is Hippie Hibachi, a vegan food station that has opened at Chattahoochee Food Works, following 11 other stalls that have opened and are serving at the 31-stall-food court.

The owner, Joshua Brock, claims to be Atlanta's first all-vegan hibachi restaurant, serving hibachi-style meals with vegan proteins such as teriyaki chicken and shrimp, tofu, Impossible Meat, and mushrooms, as well as veggie-fried rice. The stall is open from 11a.m. to 8p.m. on Sunday through Wednesday, and 11a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday.
