Atlanta Braves celebrate Phil Niekro Night on August 24

ATLANTA, GA — Atlanta Braves will celebrate Phil Niekro Night on Tuesday, August 24 at Truist Park during their battle against the New York Yankees.

The event will celebrate the life and legacy of Phil Niekro for his 25 years of effort in ending child abuse during his partnership with the Edmondson Telford Child Advocacy Center.

“Phil Niekro always held a special place in the Braves organization as a player, mentor, leader, and friend,” said Derek Schiller, President and CEO of Atlanta Braves, in a Braves press release on August 9.

Schiller also said that this event will give a tribute to Niekro who gave a lot of contributions to Braves Country and whose story will be remembered every day.

The profit collected from the in-game charity auction and the Atlanta Braves Foundation’s 50/50 Raffle on August 24, along with the donations from www.Braves.com/give on the same day, will be given to the Edmondson Telford Child Advocacy Center.

By buying a special “Knucksie” ticket package, you will donate $4 to the cause. This package includes a game ticket and a shirt illustrating Niekro’s famous knuckleball. This funding is expected can support the organization in their efforts to fight against child abuse as well as their work to give a safe environment for the victims.

Before the game starts, there will also be a check presentation on behalf of the Atlanta Braves Foundation to the Edmondson Telford Child Advocacy Center. Additional pre-game and in-game presentations will consist of vignettes and tributes honoring Phil Niekro who’s well-known as one of baseball’s greatest knuckleball pitchers.

In addition to Phil Niekro Night, flowers will also be laid on Niekro’s statue at Trust Park while the number “35” will be painted behind the pitcher’s mound.
