Mayoral Candidate Willie Wilson to Give Away $1 Million In Free Gas, Again, on Saturday

    2022-04-22

Free gas giveaways are far from over in Chicago. Mayoral candidate Willie Wilson just announced his third giveaway.

If you missed the first two, mark your calendars because it will take place this Saturday in the city and a few surrounding suburbs. According to ABC 7 News, Dolton, Hillside, and Cicero, among many more, are included. Like the other two free gas giveaways, it will start at 7 a.m. 30 gas stations will be participating, including 15 in Chicago and 15 in the suburbs. A complete list of stations is available on ABC 7's website.

Are there any rules for the giveaway? Unlike the first two times, motorists will not be allowed to line up before it begins. Police and workers are expected to help direct traffic and keep things in order.

A week ago, Wilson announced his run for Mayor in 2023, which will consist of a campaign fully funded by himself. As many looked at the first two giveaways as political stunts, the announcement was expected, but Wilson denied that they were.

Not too long ago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced a program to give away millions in gas cards and public transit cards, a move that Willie Wilson called 'tone-deaf.'

The Chicago Moves program will cost the city $12.5 million, with $7.5 million going toward 50,000 prepaid gas cards worth $150 that could only be used at Chicago gas stations and $5 million for 100,000 transit cards worth $50.

Whether both are political stunts or not, will you be getting your free gas?
