California Mandates Drug-Test Kits at Bars and Nightclubs Starting July 1st. Here’s What to Know
As the alcohol market faces a decline in California, a state-wide law requires bars and nightclubs to distribute drug-test kits to guests starting July 1 to prevent drink-spiking. According to the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, alcohol consumption dropped about 6% (over 58 million gallons) during the 2022-2023 fiscal year. Drink-spiking incidents at bars and nightclubs may have contributed to the decline in the market, and bars and nightclubs hope that providing drug-test kits may be the revamp they need to invite their consumers back.

How to Celebrate Juneteenth in Los Angeles
Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people were freed. According to the Congressional Research Service, although the Emancipation Proclamation came 2 1/2 years earlier on January 1, 1863, many enslavers continued to hold enslaved Black people captive after the announcement. Juneteenth became a symbolic date representing African-American freedom and it became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021.

At approximately 7:45 PM, a new TACO MADNESS best-in-show champion was crowned, and it was a first in its class! For the first time, it was from a fine-dining Mexican restaurant. It was a unanimous decision by our three esteemed judges: Ditroit. Chef Chuy Cervantes and his team of modern taqueros made a juicy, delicious, lime-juice forward suadero (beef brisket) slowly confit in its own fat. The taco was topped with crushed house-made chicharrón on a house-nixtamalized tortilla made with native corn imported from Mexico and topped with a dollop of guacachile.
