London Man Arrested for Criminal Trespassing, Public Intoxication and Others
Laurel County Sheriff John Root says Deputy Zach Allen, K-9/Sgt. Gary Mehler and Deputy Daniel Reed were called out to a home off West Laurel Road where a man was reportedly banging on the door demanding to be let inside. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found 28-year-old Franklin Keeling of London in the front yard and determined he was under the influence. As he was being arrested, Keeling tried to pull away and flee, but was taken into custody. Keeling was wanted on two outstanding warrants. In addition to those warrants, he was charged with criminal trespassing, public intoxication – controlled substances, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and menacing. He was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
Laurel County Basketball Legacy Ceremony to be Held August 3rd at Wellness Park
From Roy Bowling’s eight Sweet-16 appearances as a head coach in Laurel County to the Sheppard family’s success at UK, Laurel County has a rich basketball history. In honor of that heritage, London and Laurel County officials have announced a Laurel County Basketball Legacy Celebration Saturday, August 3rd at the Wellness Park. The festivities begin at 11am. All Laurel County players and coaches who have made it to the state tournament, won a state tournament or Sweet 16 will be recognized, as well as Reed Sheppard and family, who are expected to be on hand. Other dignitaries and elected officials will take part in the ceremonies. Organizers say it will honor success from the past while serving to motivate the future. The community is invited to attend. London Man Arrested After Leading Police on Chase
Laurel County Sheriff John Root says while Deputy Cyruss McVey was attempting to locate a vehicle on an unrelated complaint, he encountered a Honda 250 on KY 229 with no lights. When Deputy McVey tried to pull over the rider, later identified as 41-year-old Donald Liford of London, he sped up leading a chase through several back roads, often on the wrong side of the road. Liford eventually turned onto KY 1223 where he lost control in a turn. After a brief struggle Liford was taken into custody. Deputy Skyler McFarland assisted on the arrest. During a search he was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine. He was charged with fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, operating on suspended or revoked operator’s license, resisting arrest and trafficking in a controlled substance. Liford was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
