Newton bats go silent in losses to Oskaloosa
The Newton baseball team has a 2.76 earned run average this season. The defense is successfully fielding the ball nearly 93 percent of the time. But a .222 team batting average has plagued the Cardinals and the offense managed only three runs and nine hits in two games against Oskaloosa on Thursday.

Pam Thomas joins Gladbrook Lions Club
GLADBROOK – The Gladbrook Lions Club met at Peace Church on May 23. At the meeting new member Pam Thomas was presented her new member certificate and packet. Jeanne Paustian was her sponsor. Pam’s husband, Howard, was a long time Lions member at Juneau, Wisconsin. Pam is pictured with Leroy Thomsen, who is our last living Charter member. Grinnell College Appoints Jonathan Colby Chief Information Officer
Jonathan Colby, Interim Chief Information Officer at Grinnell College, has been appointed to the position on a permanent basis. He has served in an interim capacity since October 16, 2023. He previously served as Deputy Chief Information Officer and Director of Core Services in ITS. PCM Baseball Knocks Off Undefeated Lynnville-Sully, Softball Defeats East Marshall
The PCM baseball team defeated undefeated Lynnville-Sully Tuesday night as the Mustang softball team defeated East Marshall. The Mustang baseball team defeated the #2 ranked undefeated Hawks 9-4 to pick up their seventh win of the season. After trailing 2-1, PCM was able to score three runs in the third inning to gain some momentum as they kept it throughout the rest of the game. Trenner Van Dyke was the winning pitcher for PCM going 6 2/3 innings and recording six strikeouts. Offensively the Mustangs were led by Easton Webb who had a hit, drew two walks and scored two runs. After the win, the Mustang baseball team improves to 7-7 overall and will next compete tonight against Saydel.
Pair of Cardinal golf duos compete at state coed tournament
A pair of Newton golf duos competed in the state coed tournament at Indianola Country Club last week. Addison Hook and Kinnick Pritchard teamed up to finish tied for 27th with an 83, while Evie Main and Jackson Price were one shot back in a tie for 31st. Main and Price turned in an 84.
DCG Puts up Six Key Runs in Third for Win
In a roller coaster two hour softball contest between the Dallas Center – Grimes Mustangs and Newton Cardinals, DCG was able to use six big runs in the 3rd inning, and create 15 hits on the night for a marathon 12-3 win over Newton, winning their 8th straight in the series during the process. DCG moves to 13-3 on the season while Newton drops to 7-6.
