Laurelton, Pa. — The West End Library is, for a fourth year, teaming up with the popular kids' superhero Captain Underpants to provide essential clothing items to local children in need.

The annual Drop Your Drawers campaign invites the community to bring packages of new underwear, undershirts, and socks to the library. Sizes 4 through 16 are preferred.

The campaign will last throughout all of September during library business hours at 45 Ball Park Road, Laurelton. Donations will be given to the Mazeppa Manna Food Pantry and will then be distributed to local families with children who need them.

All donations must be new and still in the original packaging!

The Drop Your Drawers campaign is affiliated with Captain Underpants, an iconic character created by author and illustrator Dav Pilkey. The series was inspired in part by Pilkey's childhood experiences with dyslexia and ADHD. He frequently got into trouble in school, and came up with the concept for Captain Underpants as early as second grade.

Despite the amount of fun and silliness contained within, the Captain Underpants series was carefully crafted to make every word and illustration count. Even children who normally dislike or find difficulty in reading often enjoy picking up a Captain Underpants book. Like many real-life children, the kids in the Captain Underpants books are smart and kind — their reputation for troublemaking simply stems from becoming bored in class.

Though mostly meant for children, the Captain Underpants series can be amusing and even cathartic for adults, especially those living with ADHD.

The West End Library will have its collection of Captain Underpants books on display and available to borrow throughout the Drop Your Drawers campaign. Flip through the books during your visit to see what the hype is about or bring one home to enjoy with a child in your life!
