Saluda River drowning victim identified
The victim of a drowning in the Saluda River near Irvin Pitts Memorial Park in Ware Shoals was identified Monday by the Laurens County Coroner’s Office. Juan Otoniel Antonio Simon, 23, was found in nine feet of water by the Swift River Rescue Team about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, some three hours after emergency personnel were called to the scene.

A man who's body was pulled from the Saluda River in Laurens County over the weekend has been identified by the coroner. Laurens County Deputy Coroner Bill Williams said Otoniel Antonio Simon, 23, of Greenville, was found Sunday in nine feet of water by the county's Swift River Rescue team.

The Laurens County Coroner's Office has released the identity of the victim in the drowning incident in Ware Shoals on Sunday. On Sunday, June 23, the immediate family identified the drowning victim as Juan Otoniel Antonio Simon. The 23-year-old male was found in nine feet of water by the Swift River Rescue Team in the Saluda River. This drowning was near Pitts Park, located at 2283 Powerhouse Rd. in Ware Shoals.
23 Year Old Drowns In Ware Shoals
The Laurens County Coroner’s Office announced the identity of the victim in the drowning incident in Ware Shoals on Sunday. On June 23, 2024, the immediate family identified the drowning victim as Juan Otoniel Antonio Simon. The 23-year-old male was found in 9 feet of water by the Swift River Rescue Team in the Saluda River. This drowning was near Pitts Park, 2283 Powerhouse Rd. Ware Shoals, 29692. According to family, he knew how to swim, however the currents at this location are very strong and had claimed two other victims that drowned in 2022 near this same area.
