Man to plea guilty to kidnapping 4-year-old in Laurens, Iowa

LAURENS, Iowa ( KCAU ) — A man on trial for allegedly taking a child from the front lawn of a Laurens, Iowa residence without permission will plead guilty in the District Court for Pocahontas County.

According to court documents, Karson Somwei will enter a written plea of guilty to third-degree kidnapping on July 29.

He was accused of taking a 4-year-old from the front lawn on Nelson Street on April 12 . Documents indicate that the child was found in the park with family friends who had taken the child from Somwei.

Somwei was found at an apartment some time later, where he admitted to police that he took the child because he felt bad for them.

The child’s mother reportedly did not know who the man was.
